The Importance of Being Teachable
All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Teachable: Does not mean that you must accept every bit of advice
It does not mean passive acceptance of everything you’re told.
Caution: Know your teachers.
You must check what’s being taught against what the rest of the Bible teaches.
Teachable doesn’t mean soft-minded or gullible.
Teachable: Having an attitude of humility and a willingness to accept and apply instruction.
Being teachable is essential because it helps us to better know God and accept and live-out His Word, His ways, and His will.
How do we know when the Lord is speaking?
Knowing God’s voice comes from an intimate love relationship with God.
How do we set ourselves up to clearly hear God’s voice?
Take His yoke: a journey with Him, work with Him;
Jesus promises rest for your soul despite life’s struggles and stresses.
God continues, in His sovereignty, to use people to teach His truth.
To be teachable means to be humble. Are you?
The best learning is done willingly.
A person who’s willing to learn is a good listener. Are you?
Good students are also willing to accept and apply what they’re taught.
Someone who’s teachable takes what is learned and applies it to her/his life (For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; James 1:23).
You must apply what you learn or it’s just information.
