On February 23, the golfing legend Tiger Woods was in a serious car crash that left him seriously injured and requiring surgery. Now, the true cause of this crash has finally been revealed.
Fox News reported that Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva gave a press conference on Wednesday in which he revealed that Woods crashed because he was driving at an unsafe speed. He was reportedly driving between 84 and 87 mph when he first made an impact and was at 75 mph when his car hit the tree. Woods was driving this fast despite the fact that the speed limit in the area was 45 mph, more than half the speed he was at when he was going his fastest.
Investigators found no evidence of any impairment and said that Woods had no memory of the wreck. Villanueva attempted to vigorously deny that Woods was given a preferential treatment of any kind in this case.
“I know there’s some saying somehow he received special or preferential treatment of some kind, that is absolutely false,” Villanueva said. “There were no signs of impairment. Our primary concern at the scene of the collision was his safety. This is where you have to switch gears and make sure the person can survive and receives medical care.”
The sheriff went on to explain that police cannot obtain a search warrant without any signs of impairment, claiming that there was no special treatment here because these rules would apply to anyone in Woods’ position.

Though Villanueva had said last week that the cause of the crash would not be disclosed to the public, Woods gave him permission to give this press conference to reveal to the world what happened.
Here’s what happened:
After the crash, police searched the golfer’s SUV’s black box, with Los Angeles Sheriff’s Capt. James C. Powers saying that it revealed that Woods’ acceleration pedal percentage, which is the pressure applied to the accelerator pedal at the time of the crash, was at 99% at all of the areas of impact.
“There was no evidence of braking throughout this collision,” Powers said. “It is speculated and believed that Tiger Woods inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal causing that 99% grading on the accelerator pedal.”
They say he was unable to maneuver a tricky curve in the road. Strange that he wouldn’t put his foot on the break.
Police never took any blood samples from Woods, but if they had, they could have tested them for any evidence of drugs and alcohol. Woods was left with significant leg injuries after the crash, and he is now recovering at his home in Jupiter, Florida.
